Addressing Community Concerns

The Jackson Township Board of Supervisors convened on October 2nd, addressing several key issues and concerns brought forward by community members during the public comment period.

Live-Streaming Board Meetings

One of the key topics discussed during the meeting was a request to live-stream board meetings for community members who face health concerns and are unable to attend in person. A resident inquired about the obstacles preventing the implementation of such a service. In response, the board cited the associated cost of a subscription service and noted that there appeared to be limited demand for live-streaming, suggesting that viewership might be low. However, it was highlighted that residents are permitted to stream the meetings from the back of the room or from their seats, offering an alternative means of access.

Supporting Farmland Preservation

In a philanthropic move, the board unanimously approved a $10,000 donation to the 2024 Farmland Preservation Annual Appeal. This initiative underscores the township’s commitment to preserving its agricultural heritage and supporting sustainable land use practices.

Road Safety and Improvements

During the road foreman’s report, the issue of safety took center stage as the removal of a large dead tree on Hilltop Rd. was discussed. Despite the inherent challenges of traffic control during such operations, the process was deemed successful, ensuring the safety of residents and motorists alike.

Another significant road-related issue addressed was the improvement of line of sight at the intersection of W Main Avenue and S Fairlane Avenue. A hedge obstructing visibility had been a concern for some time, but the roadmaster, Tim Hibshman, reported a significant improvement following the necessary actions taken. Hibshman noted that the change was “like night and day,” enhancing safety for all who use the intersection.

Extending Outdoor Recreation

In response to favorable weather conditions, the board made the decision to extend the operating season of the Lakeside Disc Golf Park until November 1st. Ordinarily, the park closes on October 1st, but due to the unseasonably nice weather, this extension aims to provide more opportunities for outdoor recreation in the community.
