Jonestown Christmas Tree Beautification Project

The Northern Lebanon Bulletin attended their first Jonestown Borough workshop, and were welcomed with open arms.

A major discussion at the workshop meeting on January 23rd was concerning the replanting of a Christmas tree at 49 West Market Street. The current Christmas tree that stands on the property has seen better days and would be lucky to display the towns beautiful lights for one more winter season. Rather than waiting to see if it will survive to see the holiday season of 2023, the borough made the decision not only to look at plans to replace the current tree, but to conduct an all-around beautification project on the property.

Erik Josephson and Bruce Boltz approached the meeting with a draft of a solution to the problem. First and foremost, they have picked out and decided on a 12-foot Norwegian spruce tree to fulfill the spot of the designated town Christmas tree. Additionally, Josephson and Boltz proposed ideas of additional trees, picnic tables, and an off-street parking lot to host many events throughout the seasons.

The project was proposed to be completed in phases with phase one addressing the Christmas tree and the street trees being transplanted and places. The borough representatives displayed great interest in the overall project and a proposed budget will be discussed at a future meeting.

Don Raiger’s resignation was accepted unanimously amongst the council after he submitted a letter on December 21st, 2022. In response to Raiger’s resignation, President Tom Keefer recommended Rick Kline to fulfill the responsibilities as new Vice President. The motion was approved unanimously.

Tracey Charest, Parks and Recreation director, presented the following events in the 2023 season:

Huey’s Amusement Carnival running from May 11th – May 14th.

The Borough will hold a table at the Jonestown Block Party on May 27th, to discuss any township issues.

From June 8th to August 24th, every Thursday a “Craft N Play” will be hosted in the park from 12-1pm.

On July 16th Ice Cream in the Park Day will be hosted, with a possibility of moving to a night event this year.

On September 9th, the Food Truck Festival will be held in town.

On October 21st, the kids’ Halloween Dance in the Park will run from 6pm-8pm.

On November 24th the Christmas Tree lighting will take place on the new tree.

Additional events and more information will be reported as they approach. The council approved the events in that the total amount of money spent will not exceed $800.00.

Northern Lebanon Bulletin will continue to work close with the Jonestown local government to report on upcoming news, events, and other significant happenings.
