Written by Elizabeth Champagne and featured in our October 25th Print Edition

Homecoming is not just a mere event for Northern Lebanon High School; it’s a week-long fiesta brimming with pride and enthusiasm. This annual tradition sees the entire school coming together to celebrate their spirit and camaraderie in style. From “Spirit Week” to the spectacular homecoming dance, there’s something for everyone to cherish.

Kicking off the Festivities: Spirit Week

Kicking off the festivities is “Spirit Week,” where students are encouraged to embrace creative themes set by the student council. This sets the tone for the week and unleashes a flood of school spirit. Themes range from donning the school’s apparel to grade-specific color schemes, creating a visual tapestry of unity across the campus.

The Pep Rally: Igniting School Spirit

As the week unfolds, the excitement builds, and Friday brings the crescendo with a riveting pep rally. The air is electric as students engage in a multitude of spirited activities, meet their fall sports teams, and fuel their excitement for the homecoming football game later in the evening. A highlight of the pep rally is the uproarious “Pie a Teacher” event. Five lucky students are randomly selected to gleefully fling plates covered in whipped cream at their beloved teachers, an event both entertaining and memorable.

Friday Night in Pink: Supporting a Cause

Friday evening paints the campus in hues of pink, not just in support of the Northern Lebanon Football Team but also to raise awareness for breast cancer. The student section is a sea of pink-clad supporters, exuding school pride while promoting a noble cause. Gourmet delights await at the food station, and students can even transform their faces with vibrant paint, adding to the visual spectacle.

Bonfire Delights

After the football game, the night takes an enchanting turn with a massive bonfire on campus, closely supervised by local firefighters. The flickering flames offer an inviting setting for the community to gather, bond, and bask in the warmth of the roaring fire. It’s a quintessential moment of unity that warms both hearts and hands.

The Grand Finale: Homecoming Dance

The grand finale arrives on Saturday with the enchanting homecoming dance held in the school’s captivatingly decorated cafeteria. The atmosphere is transformed with enchanting string lights, whimsical butterflies, colorful balloons, strobe lights, and showers of confetti. The high school students, charged with excitement, pour in, paying a mere $10.00 in advance or $12.00 at the door. An opportunity is extended to students to invite outside guests, subject to school approval.

The dance theme is not just chosen but also artistically brought to life by the diligent student council. An adept DJ keeps the dance floor alive by spinning tracks requested by students. The artistry of the evening is encapsulated by Mr. Berdinka, who captures timeless moments with his photography skills.

Delicious finger foods and refreshments, thoughtfully curated by the staff, ensure a delightful experience while maintaining a watchful eye on everything. The dance offers the students a fantastic platform to express their unwavering support for Northern Lebanon, all while making cherished memories with friends that will last a lifetime.

Northern Lebanon’s homecoming week is not merely a set of events; it’s a journey, a passage through a sea of school spirit, unity, and unforgettable moments. It is a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Northern Lebanon community and their boundless enthusiasm to create a week of festivities that resonate with everyone involved.
