New Puppet Theater Will Delight Young Visitors at Mathews Public Library
Mathews Public Library in Fredericksburg has recently added a new and unique addition to their puppet corner, known as Old Locust Tree Meadow. The theater is designed in the shape of a tree, and features the adventures of Hopkins the rabbit, Boo the raccoon, Major the fox, and Scamp the mouse. The animals of Old Locust Tree Meadow typically enjoy peace and tranquility, but often find themselves in a sticky predicament due to their poor decision-making and wrong turns.
The Old Locust Tree was custom-crafted by Monkeyboys Productions, a company known for constructing props for Broadway shows, Saturday Night Live, and Jimmy Fallon. The Mathews Public Library has been sharing stories from their Polka Dot City Puppet Theater for 15 years, and the addition of Old Locust Tree Meadow allows for an exciting new batch of lovable characters to be shared alongside the beloved myths, fables, and fairy tales.
“Many children throughout the years have told us that they love attending the puppet shows we present here,” said Sheila Redcay, library director and main puppeteer. “It adds a third dimension to storytelling and children love to pretend.”
The Mathews Public Library invites the community to visit any Wednesday at 10 am to experience the joy of listening to these stories. The library reminds visitors that it is always free and open to the public, providing an alternative to screen time for children, parents, and grandparents alike.
