The Cleona Borough Council convened on September 11th to discuss several important matters, including the potential acquisition of a license plate reader for the police station and a decision to honor Richard Fields with a commemorative plaque and flowers.
Plate Reader Consideration
Cleona Borough Police Chief Farneski brought forward a proposal to acquire a license plate reader for the police station, aimed at enhancing law enforcement’s ability to ensure road safety and verify the legality of vehicles on the streets. The device, initially priced at $14,295, comes with an additional $1,000 annual fee.
The annual fee primarily covers daily updates that keep track of the status of license plates, distinguishing between valid and invalid ones. This information allows the system to automatically scan and verify each passing vehicle’s legality.
Solicitor Colleen Gallo, providing legal counsel to the council, advised Chief Farneski that it is essential to solicit additional bids from potential suppliers before making a final decision on the purchase. This process ensures that the borough receives the best possible value and quality for the investment.
The acquisition of such technology would represent a significant step in enhancing the capabilities of the Cleona Borough Police Department, potentially improving overall road safety and aiding law enforcement efforts in identifying vehicles of interest.
Honoring Richard Fields
During the meeting, the Cleona Borough Council unanimously approved a proposal to dedicate a plaque and flowers in honor of Richard Fields at the borough council building. The plaque and floral tribute are not to exceed a budget of $500.
Richard Fields, a respected member of the Cleona community, has made significant contributions to the borough and its residents over the years. The decision to commemorate his contributions reflects the council’s appreciation for his dedication and service to the community.
The plaque and flowers will serve as a lasting tribute to Mr. Fields, symbolizing the borough’s gratitude for his unwavering support and commitment.
The Cleona Borough Council will continue to work diligently to address the needs and concerns of the community, making decisions that aim to enhance public safety and acknowledge the outstanding individuals who contribute to the betterment of the borough. Chief Farneski’s proposal for the license plate reader will undergo a thorough evaluation, ensuring that it aligns with the best interests of Cleona residents.
