The Council Unanimously Enacts Ordinance No. 872

Myerstown, PA – In a unanimous decision during their meeting on October 10th, the Myerstown Borough Council voted in favor of enacting Ordinance No. 872. This significant move establishes crucial regulations, licensing procedures, and inspection requirements for short-term rental properties within the borough.

Keystone Fire Company’s Proposal for Knox Box Ordinance

In a separate but equally crucial development, the Keystone Fire Company presented a proposal to the council, shedding light on the possibility of implementing a Knox Box ordinance within the borough. A Knox Box is a small, wall-mounted safe that securely holds building keys for use by fire departments, emergency medical services, and, in some cases, the police in emergency situations.

The Keystone Fire Company, having already presented this proposal to Jackson Township, which subsequently adopted the ordinance, brought their case to Myerstown Borough. The proposed Knox Box ordinance aims to enhance emergency response capabilities, ensuring rapid access to crucial building keys during urgent situations.

Under this proposal, new construction and renovations that require permits, along with buildings equipped with automatic sprinkler systems or alarms, and multi-family units, such as apartments, would be mandated to install a Knox Box. This strategic approach to safety and emergency response planning reflects the council’s dedication to ensuring the well-being of the borough’s residents.

Council’s Commitment to Safety

The Myerstown Borough Council is keen on moving forward with the potential Knox Box ordinance, recognizing its potential to bolster the safety of the community and the efficiency of emergency response efforts. As they continue to deliberate on the proposal, the council remains steadfast in its mission to uphold the highest safety standards for Myerstown and its residents.

Prioritizing Community Safety

These recent developments in the council’s decision-making underscore the importance of safety and preparedness for the Myerstown community. As the council continues to address crucial matters such as these, residents can rest assured that their well-being remains a top priority in the decisions made by their local government.
