The Swatara Township Board of Supervisors met on a crisp autumn evening to address several crucial matters affecting the community. Among the key highlights were efforts to clear outstanding zoning and code enforcement violations, a significant proposal from Steckbeck Engineering regarding the Northern Lebanon High School Renovation Plan, and a grant application for the Bunkerhill Fire Company.
Clearing Zoning Violations
The meeting commenced with a notable achievement as the board, in collaboration with the zoning commission, successfully removed four properties from the violations list. These properties had shown substantial progress and were deemed compliant with the local zoning and code regulations. This outcome marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life and aesthetics of the township.
The Northern Lebanon High School Renovation Plan
One of the central agenda items featured a representative from Steckbeck Engineering who presented a detailed proposal for the Northern Lebanon High School Renovation Plan. The ambitious project seeks conditional approval from the Swatara Township Board of Supervisors to extend the school’s parking lot, replace the aging auxiliary gym, and undertake essential updates to the HVAC system, among other improvements.
During the presentation, Swatara Township engineer, Kevin Fox, raised a few concerns that the board considered pivotal. Mr. Fox emphasized the need to address potential issues related to stormwater runoff, an essential consideration for any large construction project. Furthermore, he recommended conducting a comprehensive traffic study before the renovation process commences. These suggestions resonated with the board members, who recognized the importance of these factors in ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
Consequently, the Swatara Township Board of Supervisors expressed their willingness to endorse Mr. Fox’s recommendations and will be issuing a letter outlining these requirements. However, it’s important to note that the final decision on the conditional approval for the Northern Lebanon High School Renovation Plan ultimately lies with Bethel Township. Swatara Township’s letter will serve as a critical factor in Bethel Township’s decision-making process.
Supporting Bunkerhill Fire Company
In a move that further demonstrates the commitment of the Swatara Township Board of Supervisors to supporting local community organizations, they announced their intention to apply for a $25,000 LSA (Local Share Account) grant. The funds, if awarded, will be directed toward essential supplies for the Bunkerhill Fire Company. This grant application aligns with the ongoing dedication to maintaining public safety and community welfare within Swatara Township.
