(Reuters) -Arbutus Biopharma said on Tuesday it has filed a lawsuit in the New Jersey district court against Pfizer Inc (NYSE:) and BioNTech SE (NASDAQ:), claiming their mRNA COVID-19 vaccines infringe five of Arbutus’ patents.
Arbutus, along with its licensee Genevant Sciences, is seeking damages over the use of lipid nanoparticle (LNP) delivery technology in Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines to carry and deliver genetic material into the body.
Pfizer and BioNTech did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment on the lawsuit.
Shares of the Pennsylvania-based Arbutus rose marginally to $3.09 before the bell.
