In a heartfelt plea for support, local resident Dan Shuman attended the recent Jonestown Borough Workshop to propose a proclamation designating October 13th as Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Mr. Shuman, whose own daughter battles this formidable disease, passionately emphasized the need for increased awareness and support for those affected by this condition.
During the workshop, Mr. Shuman shared the personal impact that metastatic breast cancer has had on his life, making it a cause he feels deeply connected to. His proposal aims to raise awareness and promote understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with metastatic breast cancer and their families.
Jonestown Borough holds a special significance for Mr. Shuman, as it became the first municipality he approached with his proclamation request. Determined to spread awareness far and wide, he expressed his intent to reach out to neighboring townships and municipalities, seeking their support and commitment to raising awareness about metastatic breast cancer.
Metastatic breast cancer, also known as stage IV breast cancer, occurs when breast cancer cells spread to other parts of the body, such as the bones, liver, lungs, or brain. It is a complex and often life-threatening condition that requires ongoing medical care and support. By dedicating a specific day to raising awareness, Mr. Shuman hopes to shed light on the experiences and needs of those affected, while also fostering a sense of solidarity and compassion within the community.
The proposal put forth by Mr. Shuman will now undergo further review and consideration by the Jonestown Borough Council. If approved, October 13th will officially become Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, marking a significant step forward in supporting individuals and families impacted by this devastating disease.
Mr. Shuman’s initiative serves as a reminder that community awareness and support play crucial roles in addressing the challenges faced by those living with metastatic breast cancer. By uniting in the fight against this condition, Jonestown and surrounding townships can demonstrate their commitment to the well-being of their residents and contribute to a greater understanding of metastatic breast cancer on a broader scale.
As Mr. Shuman continues his advocacy efforts, it remains to be seen how many other municipalities will join the cause and officially recognize Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. However, his unwavering determination and personal connection to this cause serve as powerful driving forces that may pave the way for a more supportive and compassionate community for those living with metastatic breast cancer.
