Daniel H. Hurst: January 5, 1952 – April 2, 2023

Daniel H. Hurst, 71, of Myerstown, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at WellSpan York Hospital. He was born on January 5, 1952, to the late John J. and Alma K. (Horst) Hurst.

Dan was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was married to his loving wife Mary Jane (Nolt) Hurst for 50 years, and together they built a beautiful life surrounded by their family.

Dan had a passion for music, and he shared that love by serving as a song leader in church for most of his life. He was a devoted member of Myerstown Mennonite Church.

Growing up on a farm, Dan developed a love for farming that stayed with him throughout his life. He collected toy tractors, a hobby that he cherished. He worked in an ag-related business for several years, and for the last 25+ years, he worked at Home Improvement in Lebanon.

Dan faced many physical challenges throughout his life due to polio, but he never let that stop him from providing for his family. He was determined to push through the pain and never used it as an excuse.

Dan was known for his love of people, and he enjoyed talking to everyone he met, whether they were a long-time acquaintance or a new friend. But above all, his family was the most important thing to him. He found his greatest joy spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Dan is survived by his wife Mary Jane, their children Jeff (Jan) Hurst, Dan (Sarah) Hurst, Lisa Hurst, Lori Hurst, Dawn (Larry) Stauffer, Amanda (Leon) Horst, Angie (Daniel) Snader, and Joey (Michelle) Hurst; 18 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his siblings Harold (Ann) Hurst, Ruth (Moses Jr.) Yoder, Lois (Ralph) Owens, Esther (Jim) Lapp, John (Bonnie) Hurst, Paul (Gloria) Hurst, Orpha (Ken) Zimmerman, and Nelson (Cindy) Hurst.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents John J. and Alma K. (Horst) Hurst, sisters Miriam Hurst and Alma Burkholder, brother-in-law Barry Burkholder, and granddaughter Jiana Hurst.

Dan’s presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His faith, love, and dedication to his family and community will forever be remembered. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family.

Jacob Keiter is a husband, a writer, a journalist, a musician, and a business owner. His journey to becoming a writer was one that was paved with challenges, but ultimately led him to find his true calling. Jacob's early years were marked by a strong desire for creative expression. He was always drawn to music, and in his youth, he played in several bands, chasing the elusive promise of fame and success. However, despite his best efforts, Jacob struggled to find the recognition he craved. It wasn't until he hit a low point in his life that Jacob discovered his love for writing. He turned to writing as a form of therapy during a particularly difficult time, and found that it not only helped him to cope with his struggles, but also allowed him to express himself in a way that he had never been able to before. Jacob's writing skills quickly caught the attention of others, and he soon found himself working as a journalist for The Sun out of Hummelstown. From there, he went on to contribute to a variety of publications, including the American Bee Journal and Referee Magazine. Jacob's writing style is reflective of traditional journalism, but he also infuses his work with a unique voice that sets him apart from others in his field. Despite his success as a writer, Jacob also owns another business, JJ Auto & Home, which specializes in cleaning. Jacob's commitment to excellence is evident in all of his endeavors, whether it be in his writing or in his business ventures. Today, Jacob is the author of two books and continues to inspire others through his writing. His journey to becoming a writer serves as a reminder that sometimes our darkest moments can lead us to our greatest achievements.
