Northern Lebanon Native and State Representative Russ Diamond recently moved his office to the Jonestown Twins Creek Business Park, and he sat down with the Northern Lebanon Bulletin to explain why he made the move.
Diamond was born in Hershey but grew up in Northern Lebanon, living in various homes and farms in the Ono area. He remembers biking down to the Messinger Store as a kid to load up on candy, bottlecaps, and soda. He cherishes his time at Northern Lebanon High School and performing in the band
“One of my biggest disappointments, whenever I first got elected, back in 2014, was that the area that I grew up in was not entirely included in the district that I represented.” Diamond shared with us. “When we had the redistricting last year, I gained East Hanover, North Annville, North Londonderry, and Palmyra, and I was so glad the areas that I grew up in were now the folks that I represented.”
Diamond’s previous office was located at the Lebanon Valley Mall on the border of Northern Lebanon and West Lebanon Townships, but they were forced to pick a new location within his new district. The 102nd district is shaped like a horseshoe running from Schaefferstown down to Palmyra. “Jonestown is literally the center of the geographic district, and to have an office here in Jonestown, we are conveniently in the district without making anyone drive through city traffic to get here.”
“One of the key things about my ability to go to Harrisburg and represent this district is the fact that I grew up here. A lot of people I grew up with still live here and we share common values. I think that gives me an excellent ability to be able to go to Harrisburg and make my voice stand out beyond less than one percent.”
Diamond is looking to continue participating in local happenings in the Northern Lebanon area, and he is willing to attend events if he is welcomed. “The folks here in Jonestown who know we’re here are absolutely thrilled to have us right here in Jonestown.” Although not enough people know about the new location yet.
While Diamond focuses on state-related issues, he is hoping to be a good friend and mentor to local municipalities to help them accomplish some of their needs. His office is available to help as a mediator with PennDOT, the Department of Agriculture, or any other state-run program for individuals and groups alike.
Diamond believes that growing up in Northern Lebanon gives him an excellent ability to represent the area in Harrisburg. He shares common values with the people he grew up with, which allows him to stand out beyond less than one percent. Diamond’s move to Jonestown has made his office more accessible to the people he represents, and he is excited to continue serving his constituents.
